*Swordsman Library is under construction again

Hello friends. I just want to share some of my present works. I know that I’ve not been posting in my blogs for nearly two weeks now, and I just want to explain and show you why.

In my last announcement, I said that I’ve been working on my Google Sites, on my new blog, The Pastor Swordsman, and other related stuffs. That is true, but my work has expanded still, or rather, something that I’ve already been considering of doing is now sure.

About a year ago, I started a “fun project” here in WordPress.com — Swordsman Library — a blog/website where you can read the Bible and some Christian classics. However, for me, it was a serious project, because I’ve always wanted an online library of my own. I think that, for someone who loves books and who loves to read, having that kind of desire is only natural. Long story short, interruptions happened, and I set aside that project, but I’d done some significant work on its foundations.

Recently, my work in Swordsman Community, where I’m curating select Christian resources, has made me realize my need for that library. I especially need a place where I can publish some public-domain literature. However, Swordsman Library was far from ready, and so I’ve decided to create several Google Sites to serve as a temporary library — a “temporary” solution that nevertheless requires years of work.

That doesn’t sound like a smart thing to do, right? To spend so much of my time and energy on something that I know is only temporary? Don’t get me wrong. My Google Sites are needed right now, and given my situation, the best (though not permanent) solution. And because it’s the New Google Sites, the service will most likely be available for many more years to come. Still, I want my efforts to last long after this temporary solution.

Again, long story short, I’ve decided to revive my library project, but this time as a self-hosted WordPress site. I’ve downloaded the WordPress software, set up my development environment, and now I’m building Swordsman Library again in my own computer. My plan is for this website to replace my Google Sites someday, and I’m going to work on them all concurrently — publishing also in Swordsman Library what I publish in my Google Sites, though this library will contain much more content.

Here are some screenshots of this website under construction.

But why self-hosted, you ask. Why not build in WordPress.com? Two reasons. First, I don’t want to pay for the Business Plan just so I can have the full functionality of WordPress, because that is what’s required for this project. And second, I don’t want to be limited (at least for Swordsman Library) by WordPress.com’s Terms of Service.

Anyway, my friends, if you’re concerned that I’ve forgotten what I’m supposed to be doing above all else, and that is to write… don’t. My goal is to just set things up — to get things going — so that working on these websites would simply become part of my life… and part of the background. Then I can finally focus on writing.
