The Greatest Reason

Creative Commons License When you are serving God, there may come a time when your faith is severely tested, and your hopes are shattered, so that you realize that your once-fiery passion is in danger of dying. More important, you find that believing in God and obeying him are now very hard to do. You are filled with doubts and questions.

You don’t want these things to happen though; you don’t want to lose your faith and turn your back on Jesus. Nevertheless, no matter how you try to feel otherwise and to believe that God is faithful, you just can’t shake off the feeling that he isn’t worthy of your trust anymore… and that everything you’ve done for him has been in vain after all.

It is really hard, to be in such a place.

Note: This post is part of the collection Founding Documents (Old).

In the end though, it is your love for God that will pull you through. It is simply because you love him that you will choose to believe in him and obey him — no matter the situation. Because love has already become your greatest reason for serving.

And then God, who truly is faithful, will show you — and prove to you — how trustworthy he really is. He will act, and he will restore your hopes and give you strength, for he will open your eyes and unveil to you things that have been hidden from you. Yes, for God himself will settle the question in your heart, that they have not been misplaced: the faith, the love, and the life you’ve given him.

At least, I find all of this to be true in my own life.

Hello! Today I’m starting my teaching ministry here on the internet — this website, Swordsman of the Word — and for my first posts I’d like to write about my motivations, my values, and my story that are behind all this. That is, I mean to show you, my friends, my greatest reason for serving God, and that is my love for him.

I have four essays to post in the coming weeks, and you can expect them every Wednesday at 7:00 a.m., Manila time (GMT+8). For more information on who I am and what this website is purposing to do, please read my About page.

This is eternal life, that they should know you, the only true God, and him whom you sent, Jesus Christ. — John 17:3 WEB

How has this ministry helped you, my friend? Have you started to know God more?

The truth is, all these things I’ve talked about won’t have any real meaning to you unless you first have a relationship with God through Jesus Christ. If you want to know how to start such a relationship (and to know the story, the privileges, and the responsibilities that accompany this relationship), please read this: God’s Plan of Salvation.

Maybe you already have a relationship with God, my friend. Or maybe you’re not ready yet to take that step. Either way, if you are blessed by what you’ve read, even if only a little, and you want to stay blessed and grow in your knowledge of God, I’m inviting you to join my mailing list now, and receive my posts in your inbox.
